Calling for constructive dialogue and joint action - Evening Event

Globalization has made it increasingly easy for transnational corporations (TNCs) to do business and manufacture their products abroad. This trend has led to considerable gaps in human rights protection due to the lack of appropriate rules and regulations granting accountability and adequate remedies in cases of violations. Thus far, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights have been insufficient in protecting the rights of affected populations. Through contributions from local Human Rights Defenders from different regions and other experts on the issue, the Panel will focus on the main challenges encountered on the ground with regards to abuses perpetrated by TNCs and business enterprises, highlighting the role of States as the primary duty-bearers under international human rights law. The goal of this event is to convene concerned actors and foster a dialogue on the necessary contents of a treaty which would address the needs of affected individuals and communities.
