Thursday, 9 July 2015, 13:00 – 15:00

Palais des nations, Room XXIV

*The meeting will start with a short film on MIFEE * Light lunch will be provided

The Government of Indonesia launched the MIFEE program (*Merauke Integrated Food Estate and Energy*) in Papua as producer of food for Indonesia. It is planned as the biggest food estate in Asia, covering a total area of 1.2 million hectares. A large portion of this land consists of primary forests, savannah, and swamplands, which serve as the areas of hunting and food gathering of the Papuan indigenous peoples. The implementation of MIFEE has resulted in serious human rights violations that done by Corporations and certified by the state. This include the alienation of Papuan indigenous peoples from their environment and they have been expelled from their indigenous territories where they live in for generations.

*The purpose of the side event is to: *

  • *Bring the MIFEE issue to the global arena and make a specific link with Corporate Crime *

  • *Provide a clearer picture corporate crime in order to management of natural resources and cause poverty and violence against humanitarian*

  • Make the link with *the problems in Indonesia and the need for a binding treaty at the UN on Businesses* and Human Rights
